Just
to be fair about this, I'll mention here, at the very outset, one of the
incredibly stupid things that I almost did.
During
the winter of 1967, I pulled into a gas station in Southeast Idaho, to
fill the tank on my truck. I discovered that water had frozen in
the lock on my gas cap, so I couldn't remove it. I asked the station
attendant if he could supply me with a few matches, so that I could thaw
the lock. Duh. He suggested that I should use hot water, instead.
